Then when all was lost I thought as "asdfsadf" did.
Then go to "authentification" tab and untick the box saying "Enable IEEE802.1x to the availiable network" and that should solve your problem Graham UK i've tried this one, but it didn't work with my laptop Just figured this one out my techy friends, after spending over 6 hours following all of your suggestions and nothing worked. As I did you may need to go into the properties of the rounter under the "Advanced" tab then under the "Wireless settings" remove the checkmark for "Enable Wi Fi" Then click on "Save Settings" This did fix the issue for me.
I decided to play with the driver, I uninstalled and then proceeded to install the driver and wallahh.... I have recently started having the Validation Identity problem.
After this remove your router from preferred networks list. I had this problem on a laptop (lenovo) which i reinstalled xp on.
This will allow you to pick your router from available wireless network again, and put in your encryption code. I tried all the other stuff like disabling 802.11 settings under properties blah blah ..nothing worked.
At any rate, it was far from clean when I took it home and they then tried to charge me MOAR money to "fix" the "new problem".
Since then I had a run of common but nasty little buggers, starting with the browser hijack thing and finishing with several instances of the fake antivirus that "wipes" your hard drive.
To resolve i went to the manufacturer site and downloaded the latest drivers for the wireless card, and any other drivers i could. I had the same problem with a toshiba satellite p30 running windows xp pro sp3 with an atheros 5004x wireless card.
I tried every solution I could find on the net but nothing worked.
What is strange though is that my netbook is connecting to our home network - which requires no password certificate.
I have unticked the Hi i also have a problem with my wireless connection.
